GMHBA Stadium witnessed an electrifying clash in Round 12 of the 2024 AFL season, as the Geelong Cats took on the Richmond Tigers. The Cats emerged victorious with a final score of 99 to 69, much to the delight of their home crowd. The atmosphere was electric, and fans were treated to a thrilling contest that saw the Cats claw their way back from an early deficit. The first quarter saw Richmond Tigers come out of the gates roaring. Mykelti Lefau kicked things off with an early goal in the first minute, setting the tone for the Tigers. Tyler Sonsie followed up with a behind, and Dustin Martin added another goal to extend the lead. By the 19th minute, Lefau had his second goal, and Liam Baker capped off the quarter with another major. The Cats struggled to find their rhythm, managing only two goals from Tom Hawkins and Mitchell Duncan. The quarter ended with Richmond leading 27 to 14. In the second quarter, the Tigers continued to dominate. Noah Cumberland scored a goal early on, and although the Cats tried to respond with a goal from Tanner Bruhn, Richmond's Rhyan Mansell and Samson Ryan added two more goals to keep the pressure on. The Cats showed signs of life towards the end of the quarter, with Oliver Dempsey scoring two quick goals. Despite their efforts, Richmond maintained a solid lead, heading into halftime with a 49 to 33 advantage. The third quarter was a turning point for the Cats. Max Holmes kicked things off with a goal in the first minute, and although Seth Campbell responded for Richmond, the Cats went on a scoring spree.
