Not to be outdone, Geelong's Mitchell Duncan quickly responded, leveling the score. The Bombers managed to pull ahead with goals from Peter Wright and Jake Stringer, who was particularly impressive with back-to-back goals. By the end of the quarter, Essendon led 26-20, showcasing a strong offensive push. In the second quarter, the Cats fought hard to close the gap. Jeremy Cameron's goal in the 12th minute brought Geelong within striking distance. A late goal from Wright gave the Bombers a narrow lead, ending the quarter at 45-40 in their favour. The third quarter was where Geelong began to dominate. Mark Blicavs' early goal tied the game once again, and from there, the Cats took control. Tyson Stengle, Gary Rohan, and Oliver Dempsey all contributed crucial goals, turning the tide in Geelong's favour. By the end of the quarter, the Cats had surged ahead to a 72-51 lead, leaving the Bombers struggling to keep up. The final quarter saw the Cats seal their victory with a series of impressive plays.
