Tom De Koning, also known as TDK or The King, is a rising star in the Australian Football League (AFL). Born on July 16, 1999, Tom has quickly made a name for himself as a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Carlton Football Club. Growing up, Tom attended Padua College and honed his skills playing junior football for Mt Martha alongside his current teammate Jacob Weitering and St Kilda player Hunter Clark. Standing tall at an impressive height of 204 cm (6 ft 8 in) and weighing 103 kg (227 lb), Tom typically excels in the roles of ruckman and forward on the field. Tom's talent and dedication were evident early on when he joined the TAC Cup club Dandenong Stingrays. In 2016, at just 17 years old, he showcased his scoring prowess by kicking nine goals in a single match against the Northern Knights. Despite facing a setback with a kidney laceration in July 2017, Tom's resilience shone through as he recovered and was drafted by Carlton with pick 30 in the 2017 AFL national draft. In August 2018, Tom made his AFL debut for Carlton in a match against the Western Bulldogs at Docklands Stadium. He made an immediate impact, recording 11 disposals, five marks, and scoring his first goal in the second quarter. Tom's stellar performance earned him a contract extension with Carlton until 2025, solidifying his position as a key player for the club. Off the field, Tom comes from a football family, with his father Terry De Koning being a former Footscray player and his brother Sam De Koning playing for Geelong. With his Dutch heritage and strong family ties, Tom brings a unique blend of talent, determination, and passion to the AFL, making him a player to watch in the seasons to come.
