Sam Lonergan, a former professional Australian rules footballer, boasts an impressive career that saw him play for both the Essendon Football Club and the Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Lonergan's journey in the AFL began when he was drafted from the Launceston Football Club, making his mark with selection 50 in the 2005 Draft. Known for his exceptional skills on the field, Lonergan captained the Allies in a memorable match against Victoria during Grand Final week, showcasing his talent by kicking five goals and dominating possession. His achievements include winning successive best and fairest awards with the Tassie Mariners U18s and being selected in the under-18 All-Australian side. Lonergan's career took a turn when he faced challenges, such as his delisting from Essendon in 2012 and subsequent move to Richmond, where he played two games before retiring in 2013. Despite the setbacks, Lonergan remained resilient and returned to his roots by becoming the Senior Playing Coach of the Launceston Football Club in 2015.
