Sam Grimley - Player Bio
Sam Grimley, affectionately known as "Stones," is a former Australian rules football player with an impressive career in the Australian Football League. Born on January 3, 1991, Grimley started his journey in football as a third-round selection, No. 39 overall, by the Hawthorn Football Club in the 2009 AFL draft. Initially seen as a long-term project due to his background as a former junior basketballer, Grimley's dedication and hard work paid off as he developed into a versatile forward/ruck option for Hawthorn. Despite facing setbacks like injuries, Grimley showcased his skills and determination, earning his debut in Round 9 of the 2013 AFL season against Gold Coast. Throughout his career, Grimley displayed his prowess on the field, consistently delivering strong performances for both Hawthorn and Essendon. His ability to impact games as a forward and ruckman was evident, with notable achievements such as tying as the leading goalkicker in the 2014 VFL home-and-away season and being a joint-winner of the Frosty Miller Medal in 2015. Despite facing challenges, Grimley's passion for the game and family legacy in football, with his father Brett and grandfather Ken also accomplished footballers, further fueled his determination to succeed in the sport. Grimley's contribution to Australian football is a testament to his perseverance and talent on the field.
