Ryan Hargrave - Player Bio
Ryan Hargrave, a former Australian rules footballer, made a significant impact during his time with the Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League. Despite being born in Melbourne, his family relocated to Perth, Western Australia, when he was just one year old. Hargrave's career took off after being drafted with pick 66 in the 1999 AFL Draft from the Perth Football Club. His prowess as a defender quickly became evident, and by 2002, he had established himself as a key player in the Western Bulldogs' defense. This culminated in his nomination for the AFL Rising Star award that same year, along with winning the Western Bulldogs' Best First Year Player award. In 2005, Hargrave's talent was further recognized when he was selected for the Western Australia State of Origin team. Despite facing challenges, such as a suspension in 2003 following an on-field incident, Hargrave persevered and continued to make significant contributions to his team. His resilience was evident in 2011 when he battled foot and ankle injuries, limiting his game time. Despite doubts about his future with the Bulldogs, Hargrave defied expectations and went on to achieve his 200-game milestone in 2012 before retiring at the end of the season. Notably, Hargrave comes from a footballing family, with his father, Steve Hargrave, also having played for the Bulldogs in the 1980s. Ryan Hargrave's legacy as a talented defender and dedicated team player remains etched in the annals of Australian Football history.
