Mitch Golby - Player Bio
Mitch Golby, also known as "Dragon," is a former professional Australian rules footballer who left a mark during his time with the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL). Born on October 3, 1991, Golby was a promising talent from the start. He was chosen by the Brisbane Lions as their first pick and sixteenth overall in the 2010 rookie draft, following his impressive performances with the Gippsland Power in the TAC Cup. Golby's AFL debut came in a challenging match against Carlton at Etihad Stadium in round 12 of 2011. Despite the loss, Golby's skills and determination were evident. His standout performance came in his sixteenth game, where he showcased his versatility with twenty-four disposals, eight marks, and four tackles in a commanding win against Greater Western Sydney at the Gabba in round 8 of 2012. This exceptional display earned him the round nomination for the Rising Star award. Throughout his career from 2011 to 2015, Golby accumulated a total of 56 games, proving himself as a valuable asset to the Brisbane Lions. However, his final season in 2015 was marred by injuries, limiting him to just five matches, leading to his delisting from the team. Standing at 183 cm (6 ft 0 in) and known for his role as a defender, Golby's contributions to the Brisbane Lions will be remembered by fans and teammates alike. Despite his early departure from the professional scene, Golby's passion and dedication to the sport continue to inspire young athletes in the Australian football community.
