Born on 24 February 1989, Austin began his professional journey with the Glenelg Tigers in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) in 2006. His talents did not go unnoticed as he caught the eye of Carlton Football Club during the 2006 AFL National Draft, where he was selected in the third round. Austin's dedication and hard work saw him make his AFL debut in 2007, showcasing his skills as a resilient defender. Despite facing challenges with injuries, Austin persevered and proved his worth as a valuable asset to the teams he played for. His versatility and commitment were evident during his time with Carlton and later with the Western Bulldogs, where he continued to display his prowess on the field. After being delisted at the end of the 2014 AFL season, Austin continued to pursue his passion for the game by joining the Essendon District Football League club Aberfeldie in 2015.
