Lenny Hayes, a former professional Australian rules footballer, graced the field for the St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL) from 1999 to 2014. Hailing from Sydney, Hayes kickstarted his career playing TAC Cup football for the NSW/ACT Rams before being handpicked by St Kilda as the 11th pick in the 1998 National Draft. Debuting in the senior team in round five of the 1999 season, Hayes quickly made a name for himself, earning a nomination for the AFL Rising Star Award in his debut year. Throughout his illustrious career, Hayes overcame two knee reconstructions in 2006 and 2011 to become a linchpin player for St Kilda. With 297 games under his belt and 95 goals to his name, Hayes bid adieu to the game at the conclusion of the 2014 season. Renowned for his midfield prowess, Hayes secured his place as one of the league's top midfielders. He clinched All-Australian honors thrice (in 2003, 2005, and 2009) and finished third in the 2009 Brownlow Medal race. A recipient of the Trevor Barker Award for St Kilda's best and fairest player in 2003, 2010, and 2012, Hayes also led the team as captain in the 2004 and 2007 seasons. Although Hayes fell short of a premiership in three Grand Finals, his standout performance in the drawn 2010 AFL Grand Final earned him the prestigious Norm Smith Medal.
