Josh Mellington, a former Australian rules footballer, began his journey in Benalla before making his mark with the Murray Bushrangers in the TAC Cup. Mellington showcased his scoring prowess in 2010, leading the Bushrangers in goalkicking with an impressive tally of 41 goals for the season. His stellar performance also earned him a fourth-place finish in the TAC Cup best and fairest awards. In a surprising turn of events, Fremantle Football Club drafted Mellington as the 56th overall pick in the 2010 AFL draft. The small forward made his debut for Fremantle during a NAB Cup pre-season double header in 2011, displaying his skills on the field. His official AFL debut came in Round 14 of the 2011 season against the Brisbane Lions at Patersons Stadium. Despite his promising start, Mellington's time at Fremantle was short-lived, and he was delisted after playing a total of six games over three years with the club. However, Mellington continued to pursue his passion for the game and showcased his talent by kicking an impressive 27 goals in a single game for Violet Town against Tallygaroopna in the Kyabram District Football League in 2021. With a height of 187 cm and weighing 78 kg, Mellington made a lasting impact during his time with Fremantle, leaving a legacy that fans continue to remember.
