His skills and dedication caught the attention of the Geelong Football Club, leading to his selection as the 48th pick in the 2011 AFL Draft. Debuting in the AFL in July 2012 against Port Adelaide, Murdoch showcased his prowess as a utility player. Standing tall at 190 cm (6 ft 3 in) and weighing 87 kg (192 lb), he proved to be a valuable asset for both the Geelong Football Club and later the Gold Coast Suns.
