Joel Western - Player Bio
Joel Western, a talented Australian rules football player, made his mark with the Fremantle Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Born on October 12, 2002, Western's journey to the AFL started with his involvement in Fremantle's Next Generation Academy (NGA). With his roots tracing back to Singapore through his mother, he was a standout player drafted by Fremantle in the 2020 national draft, selected in the 54th round after the Western Bulldogs made a bid. Having honed his skills playing junior football for Claremont and representing Western Australia at the Under 18 level, Western comes from a footballing family. His father, John, also had a football career with Subiaco in the 1980s, while his sister Mikayla Western is a player for the West Coast Eagles. Joel Western's AFL debut came in round 13 of the 2021 season against Gold Coast, where he showcased his talent alongside fellow draftee Brandon Walker. Despite playing a few games for Fremantle, Western's dedication and skills shone through on the field. As the 2022 season concluded, Fremantle Football Club made the decision to delist Western after he had played four AFL games for the team. However, he continues to contribute to the sport, now representing Claremont and aiming to further develop his football career. With his passion for the game and family legacy, Joel Western remains a promising player to watch in the Australian football scene.
