Clay Smith - Player Bio
Clay Smith, a former Australian rules footballer, made a significant impact during his time with the Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League (AFL). Hailing from the Gippsland Power in the TAC Cup, Smith was selected by the Western Bulldogs as the 17th pick in the 2011 AFL Draft. Upon joining the team, he proudly donned the #14 jumper, previously worn by the talented Callan Ward. Smith's AFL debut on 1 April 2012 against the West Coast Eagles showcased his prowess on the field. Despite being substituted off due to severe cramping, he managed to impress with 13 possessions and 4 goals, highlighting his skill and determination. Throughout his career, Smith continued to be a valuable asset to the Bulldogs, consistently demonstrating his abilities as a forward. Unfortunately, persistent injuries ultimately led to Clay Smith announcing his retirement from AFL football on 9 July 2018. Despite his career being cut short, Smith's contributions to the Western Bulldogs and the AFL will always be remembered by fans and fellow players alike.
