Born on May 29, 1990, Cornelius hails from Hobart, Tasmania, and stands tall at 192 cm (6 ft 4 in) with a weight of 86 kg (190 lb). In the 2008 National Draft, the Brisbane Lions made a strategic move by selecting Cornelius as their fourth pick, securing him at the 57th overall spot.
